Axel Buhr

Axel Buhr specializes in international arbitration and state court litigation cases.

Since 2009, Axel has participated in numerous arbitration proceedings as arbitrator and counsel. Axel is experienced in handling cases under Swiss, ICC, DIS, VIAC and ad hoc arbitration rules.

In addition to his arbitration work, Axel represents clients in state court litigations, in particular international commercial disputes.

Axel holds bar admissions in Germany (Karlsruhe, 2009) and Switzerland (Zurich, 2013).

In 2003, Axel graduated from the University of Heidelberg (Germany). After his traineeship (Referendariat) at the district court of Constance (Germany), Axel passed the German bar exam in 2005.

From 2006 to 2009, Axel worked as a research assistant at the University of Lucerne and specialized in conflicts of law. In 2009, he received a doctorate from the University of Lucerne. In 2010, Axel started teaching at the University of Lucerne. He regularly publishes on Swiss arbitration and procedural issues.

From 2009 until 2017, Axel was a member of the dispute resolution team of an international law firm in Zurich. In 2017, Axel joined Gabriel Arbitration as a partner.

Since 2017, Axel was repeatedly recognized as a “future leader” and “recommended lawyer” in the field of arbitration by Who’s Who Legal and Lexology.
